Pumpkins and unclaimed oversized bags of Halloween candy have disappeared from store shelves, replaced by twinkling lights, gift wrap and holiday decorations.Still, the offer of treats has yet to end for South Carolina retailers looking to scare up staff for the critical year-end shopping season.Store operators have been offering workers higher pay and more incentives for two years as they struggled to attract and retain help. Some business owners are seeing that pay off. Elizabeth Darby, the owner of Wonder Works, a Mount Pleasant toy store, said after last year's challenges, hiring wasn't a problem this year.
